News

Long overdue, here is some new news (finally!) ...
  • I'm finishing up the 09 fall semester at Loyola University, where I've been teaching  since September. Tony Dagradi is taking a sabbatical this year (contented smile from Tony), and John Mahoney invited me to join Jason Mingledorff in the Loyola Saxophone Studio.  I'm also teaching Training Band (Jazz Band III) and coaching a Brazilian music Combo.  I'm happy and proud to say that there is a great bunch of students there this year, and many of them are extremely dedicated to the study of their future craft; it makes my job a whole lot funner!  In the combo, we're playing music from João Donato, Victor Assis Brasil, Dorival Caymmi, and yours truly.  There are tunes 'in the wings' from Hermeto Pascoal and Toninho Horta, plus students have brought in arrangements and compositions.
  • See Ray on the nationally-televised (in Brazil, on TV Globo) Jô Soares show! Watch

  • Trio de Janeiro (bio and photo here) is now Brasilliance! Trio.  We'll be playing in Baton Rouge at Chelsea's as part of the Baton Rouge Public Library's Jazz Series.  Thanks Emilie Roper Smart!  We have been working on some new things lately, we'll be sure to bring some chestnuts as well...
  • I've been enjoying working with Banu Gibson a good bit lately, and of course continue to be part of the Creole Jazz Serenaders.  On behalf of the band I'd like to welcome Mike Esneault on piano.  I've had the pleasure of working with Mike in the Bobby Campo/Mike Esneault Septet, and with Stephanie Jordan, where Mike is Musical Director.  Stephanie is a fine vocalist who knows how to tell a story with a song.  Great arrangements for a great band, too!  See the Calendar for more upcoming Ray Moore dates.
  • Although I haven't been to Brazil since September of 08 (Vitória, ES and Rio de Janeiro), I'm putting together ideas for a tour in 2010 (positive thinking!). I hope to count of the talents of Pascoal Meirelles on drums and another longtime associate, Italian-born pianist extraordinaire Dario Galante.
